You can take non-nursing courses at St. Joseph School of Nursing before applying to the Nursing program. Taking one or two courses before applying to the program can help you prepare for college level courses before jumping in. Getting a head start on coursework can also help lighten your workload during the semesters, letting you focus on the nursing courses.
Taking non-nursing courses before applying for the ASN program can help strengthen your application. Please be aware that taking courses early or transferring courses into the program may affect federal financial aid. Eligibility for federal aid requires that you be matriculated (accepted) into a program and carry a minimum number of credits.
Non-Degree Seeking Student Class Availability
Individuals may apply to enroll in the following non-nursing courses:
- Anatomy & Physiology I & II
- English Composition I & II
- Life Span Development
- Microbiology
- Psychology
- Sociology
Unique Requirements for Students Who Are Not Pursuing a Degree
- Enrollment is subject to adequate space pending registration by admitted, degree students
- A minimum enrollment of eight (8) students is required to offer the course.
- Courses are subject to the Transfer of College Credits Policy.
- Due to Federal law non-degree students are not eligible for Federal Financial Aid. However, we will help you find ways to support your educational goals, including making a payment plan available.
- Non-Degree students will be required to attend a student orientation prior to beginning the semester.
- Attending St. Joseph School of Nursing as a non-degree seeking (non-matriculated) student does not guarantee acceptance into the nursing program. An application to the nursing program is required along with all admission requirements for that program.
