Phlebotomy Training Program

About the Profession

Phlebotomy technicians provide critical support to clinical practitioners by collecting blood specimens from patients, which are vital for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Phlebotomy technicians are required to have good communication ability, fine motor skills and some mobility to successfully perform in most clinical settings.

About Our Program

The Phlebotomy Training Program at our Milford Satellite seamlessly integrates theoretical, practical, and interpersonal skills. This comprehensive approach equips trainees with the abilities needed to excel as entry-level phlebotomists upon program completion.

Time, Credit Hour & Licensure Requirements

Total Time Commitment: 8 Weeks

Total Training Requirement: 152 hours

  • Classroom Time: 120 hours
  • Clinical Externship: 32 hours, including at least 50 successful venipunctures

Certification Requirements:

  • After successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the national phlebotomy certification exam.

Program Admission Requirements

In addition to completing our online application and meeting our school’s general admissions requirements, applicants who are approved for the Phlebotomy Training Program will have demonstrated that they:

  • Submitted a transcript from a U.S. Department of Education approved school or facility showing that they received a high school diploma, GED or HiSET. (The transcript must show courses of study related to math, science, reading, and writing skills as part of the secondary school education.)
  • Submitted an Admission Application
  • Have paid the $25 application fee
  • Provided proof of legal residence in the US (Birth Certificate, Unexpired US Passport, Certificate of Naturalization or Unexpired Permanent Resident Card)
  • Submitted a copy of their health insurance card

Additional Information

  • Funding may be available for this program through state or federal St. Joseph Hospital for employees may also be eligible to have a portion or all of their program expenses reimbursed.
